2D Barcode recognition - QR Codes

Top  Previous  Next

Chiizu Photo File Workflow can find and decode 2D QR Code Barcodes from within an image.

This exciting features means you can take photos of QR Barcodes, then use the data from this within Workflow to upload to photo sharing websites, rename photos or create subfolders using part or all of the Barcode contents.

If the QR Barcode contains a URL, the name/value pairs will be added to Chiizu EXIF as Custom Chiizu EXIF Name/Value Pairs.  This is very useful for instances where you want to have the barcode contain a URL to a user's photos on an ecommerce website.  Workflow can upload the images with the correct user identifiers using Chiizu EXIF and a POST or GET parameter.  See Upload File to Server for more details.

QR Barcodes are 2 dimensional barcodes that can contain more information than traditional 1D barcodes.  They are also recognised on many phones and if the barcode contains a URL, phones will generally open the web page when a photo of the barcode is taken.

Here's a QR Barcode:

It contains the following URL:

http://prototype.chiizu.com/member/accesskeylogin.ashx?AccessKey=ABC123

You can generate sample barcodes for free here:

Theme park scenario:

If customers have a nametag or pass with a barcode containing a unique AccessKey, a photographer can photograph the barcode prior to taking their photos.  These photos are then automatically uploaded to a photo website using the Upload File to Server Action when the photographer moves the photos from her camera with the Move Files Action.  The Move Files action needs the Check Image for Barcode function enabled.

This will read the QR Barcode if it's available, then store the details from the URL into the Chiizu EXIF.  This information can then be used during the file upload process to inform the server of the user details (from the QR Code) so they can view the photos online.

When the user enters their custom URL or scans the QR Barcode with their mobile phone, they can then view the photographs and order prints or share them online.

The photographer can scan a QR Barcode with only two zeros eg: 00 to reset the Barcode between subjects.
